Thermographic Applications in the Environment. Infrared techniques are applicable in the provision of basic planning. In meteorology, geology, hydrology and land- and forest-management the application of thermography produces useful results. Infra-red imagery allows the monitoring of industrial plant, raising of production continuity, and provides a visual image of causal linkages, which could not be registered by any other means. Applications - Recording of infrared data in the atmospere (at a height of 2000m) - Recording of cold-water flows in rivers and lakes - Monitoring of underground pipelines - Pin-pointing of possible pipe or cabling leakage - Inspection of high-tension transmission lines - Monitoring of water-temperatures and ground-information - Monitoring of waterlogging - Recording of underground, archaeological sites - Other applications Infrared/Thermal scanning by Helicopter In order to scan large areas and recognise causal links, or to check pipelines or high-tension pylons, the use of an aircraft is necessary. The use of an infra-red camera built into a helicopter is particularly applicable to environmental data-collection.
